COAL TO THE ENEMY

Copy of an article sent to a

Sydney Newspaper.

(From our special correspondent in Manila)

It must be rather a shock to all loyal Australians

and our Japanese allies to know that more than thirty three

thousand tons of their good coal have passed into the hands of

the enemy, through commercial channels in Manila, from the

beginning of the war to date, yet such is the sad fact; and the

game is likely to continue unless strong measures are taken by

the exporting countries to stop it, as it appears that the goverm

mênt here is powerless in the matter.

The following steamers, loaded with coal, left this

port between the 8th of August and the 4th of September, their

ostensible destinations being Guam, Menade (Java) and Bangkok,
